Das Cortez
Mexicali's café of the moment
About Das Cortez
Das Cortez is Mexicali's café of the moment: the specialty coffee brand and roaster born in Tijuana in 2011 opened its Mexicali location in 2025 and quickly became a must-visit. The spot, in the downtown Segunda Sección, is large and bright, with a glass-arch facade, a cozy interior and a pet-friendly shaded patio that's lovely when the weather cools down. It serves personalized drinks —they write your name on the cup—, its famous thick, creamy matcha latte, a "deli" latte, iced latte and seasonal drinks like the Zitronic, paired with pastries from local bakeries (the desserts come from Repostería de Mielle). Add plenty of parking, WiFi and its own minimalist merch. It's a place built more for hanging out than for getting hours of focused work done.

Tips for your visit
What to know before you go
Order the matcha latte
It's what put Das Cortez on the map: thick, creamy and with real flavor. Nearly every review mentions it.
Better for hanging out than working
The place is beautiful but reviews agree there are few outlets and small tables for a laptop — great to chat, not for a work marathon.
Go without a rush
Several reviews mention slow service even when it's not busy. Worth it, but don't go when you're pressed for time.
Pet-friendly patio
It has a shaded outdoor area where you can bring your dog; very pleasant when it cools down.
