🎪 What is a palenque (and why it beats a stadium show)

A palenque is the most intimate format there is to see a major artist: a covered circular arena with the stage at the center and the audience wrapped around it in 360°. There's no "behind the stage" and no distant video screens — at the FEX Palenque even the general zone faces the artist directly, and ringside puts you literally a few meters away.

The show itself is different too: with no giant production in the way, artists stretch their setlists, take requests and banter with the crowd. Julión Álvarez's palenques, for example, are legendary for running into the early morning. Bands that fill stadiums, playing for a few thousand people — that's what you're paying for at a palenque.

The FEX Palenque only operates during Fiestas del Sol (the 50th anniversary edition in 2026): it's the strongest concert season of the year in Mexicali.

Arena seating zones

Ringside

Front row of the arena, a few meters from the artist. The signature palenque experience — and the first zone to sell out.

VIP

Very close to the arena with better comfort and service. The favorite balance of price and proximity.

Preferred

Mid-level zone: a great view of the full arena at a mid-range price.

General

The budget option. Thanks to the 360° format, even the upper zone gets a full view of the show.

Per-zone prices vary by artist and are published on Ticketnauta when each date's sale opens.

🚗 Getting there, parking & the border

  • Address: FEX Convention Center, Calle Río Nuevo #955, Mexicali. The palenque entrance is separate from the fair's general admission gate.

  • Parking: the FEX has ample parking, but it fills up on big palenque dates. Arrive before 8 PM or take an Uber/taxi to the main entrance — the Río Nuevo area gets heavy fair traffic on weekends.

  • Coming from Calexico / Imperial Valley? Shows end well past midnight — for the trip back, the West (Downtown) crossing is the only one open 24 hours. Check wait times in real time on our Mexicali border crossings guide.

  • Buy from official channels only: Ticketnauta and the Hotel Araiza box office. Fake resale tickets circulate on sold-out dates.

Where do I buy palenque tickets and how much do they cost?
Sales opened July 14, 2026, 11:00 am on Ticketnauta (online) and at the Hotel Araiza Mexicali box office (Blvd. Benito Juárez 2220). Prices vary by artist and zone (general, preferred, VIP and ringside); exact ranges for each date are listed on Ticketnauta. Avoid resellers — fake tickets circulate on sold-out dates.
What time do palenque shows start?
Fiestas del Sol palenque shows typically start around 10:00 PM. The exact showtime for each date is confirmed with your ticket. Tip: arrive before 8 PM to beat the fair traffic and parking crunch.
Does a palenque ticket include fair admission?
No: palenque tickets are separate from general fair admission and are purchased independently. Check your ticket conditions on Ticketnauta — in previous editions the palenque had its own entrance to the venue.
Is there a minimum age for the palenque?
Palenques are usually 18+ events, since alcohol is served. The exact restriction for each date is set by the organizer and appears in the ticket conditions — verify before buying if you plan to bring minors.
Can I come from Calexico for a palenque show and cross back the same night?
Yes — many fans cross from Calexico and the Imperial Valley for palenque nights. Keep in mind shows end well past midnight: for the trip back, the West (Downtown) border crossing is the only one open 24 hours. Check wait times in real time on our Mexicali border crossings guide.
