History and name

Opened to serve the capital of Baja California, MXL is named in honor of Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada, former governor of Baja California, president of the PRI, and Secretary of the Navy. With a 2,601-meter runway and a total area of 535 hectares, it operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is a focus city for Volaris, resulting in daily frequencies to major Mexican destinations and connections via Guadalajara and Mexico City to all of the Americas. In addition to regular commercial traffic, it also facilitates domestic and international charter flights, flight training, and executive aviation.
