Alfredo Olivas plays the Palenque del FEX on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 — and the date carries a detail few notice: the Sonoran singer's birthday is October 1, so Mexicali catches him on the eve of it. The palenque also happens to be the format that suits his repertoire best: the stage sits at the center, the crowd rings it from the tiers, and nobody is more than a few meters from the accordion.
A native of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, he wrote his first corrido at nine and has since written around a thousand songs, many of them for other artists. His album "El Privilegio" (2015) reached number two on Billboard's Top Latin Albums, and tracks like "El Paciente" and "El Precio de la Soledad" have racked up hundreds of millions of plays.
His current era moves away from the narcocorrido that first made his name: he has said that the country's violence and the birth of his first child pushed him toward romantic norteño. In 2025 he released "V1V0", which came out on February 28 — the same date he survived the 2015 shooting — and which put him back at the top of the charts.

A palenque puts the stage at the center with the audience all around it, split across the rings: there is barely a "back row", though the view changes quite a bit depending on your section. It sits inside the Centro FEX, on Río Nuevo, minutes from the Centro Cívico. This is a weeknight show: if you are coming from the valley or crossing the border, allow extra time to park.
