Mexicali's Reading Club

The Snowtea Reading Club started in Mexicali with a simple idea: bring together people who love reading to share great stories. More than 7 years later, we are one of the city's most consistent book clubs, with a community that grows session after session.

We meet every two weeks at Snowtea UABC, the bubble-tea café across from the university. Entry is always free: all you need is the urge to read and chat. We read everything —classics, crime, science fiction, essays— because the next book is chosen by everyone at the end of each session.

📮 El buzón de las impuras

by Francisca Solar · 2024

Santiago de Chile, 1863. The fire at the Church of La Compañía kills more than two thousand women in one of the worst tragedies of the 19th century — and only one thing survives the flames: the mailbox where the Daughters of Mary, a sisterhood of high-society women, confessed to the Virgin their most intimate desires and the abuse they endured in God's name. Francisca Solar's novel rescues that forgotten true story; its impact reached Chile's Congress, inspiring a bill to dignify the victims.

🌟 Why This Book?

  • • Based on a real, nearly forgotten tragedy
  • • Great for debating faith, power and patriarchal silence
  • • Recent Chilean publishing phenomenon (2024)
  • • Its impact reached Chile's Congress
