Time until El Grito night
Free admission: no tickets and no presale. Anyone charging you is a scam.
The Baja California state government announced Edén Muñoz on August 18, 2026 through its social media. The next day, the state Culture Secretary, Alma Delia Ábrego Ceballos, said the booking had not been closed: "No se ha contratado, el procedimiento apenas sucedió en días pasados" (it has not been contracted, the procedure only happened in recent days). Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda defended the announcement. The reported cost of the performance is 6 million pesos, through the promoter NR Artistas. Until the contract is confirmed, treat this as an announced date, not a locked one.
Mexicali celebrates El Grito — Mexican Independence night — at the Centro Cívico, on the esplanade of the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, and on September 15, 2026 the bill is headlined by Edén Muñoz. It is free: the state government pays for the show and the plaza opens to whoever shows up, the same as last year with Banda MS.
Edén Muñoz is one of those names you know before you realize you know it. For twelve years he was the voice, the accordion and — above all — the songwriter of Calibre 50, and in that time he also wrote for half the regional Mexican industry: his songs have been sung by Banda MS, Julión Álvarez, Grupo Firme and Pepe Aguilar, among dozens of other artists. He left the group in 2022 and launched a solo career, and it worked: "Chale" is still his most-streamed track today.
His solo catalog fits a public plaza well, leaning more toward heartbreak and singalongs than corridos: "Consejos Gratis", "Abcdario", "Mi Yo de Antes". And there is a calendar detail: he plays Mexicali ten days before turning 36, on September 25.
There are no tickets. The September 15 celebration at the Centro Cívico is a public event run by the state government, free and family-oriented; the governor described it as "completely free for families". That means there is no presale, no VIP tier for sale and no official ticket seller: anyone offering to sell you access is scamming you. What is worth doing is arriving early — capacity on the esplanade is whatever fits, and El Grito night is one of the nights that fills the Centro Cívico.
His most-streamed tracks per the official Deezer catalog, cross-checked with the ones local press mentioned when announcing this date. No setlist has been published for Mexicali — this is indicative.
Before going solo he was the author of other people's hits, writing for dozens of regional Mexican artists. These four are the ones confirmed independently by both en.wikipedia and his buenamusica biography.
The Plaza de los Tres Poderes is the esplanade in front of the government buildings, right in the Centro Cívico — the same area as Plaza Baja California and the Teatro del Estado. Streets around it close on El Grito night, so come early and plan to park a few blocks away and walk. It is an open, standing esplanade: September in Mexicali stays hot even at night, so dress light and bring water. If you come with kids, agree on a meeting point before the crowd builds.
Date, venue, free admission and contract status verified on August 23, 2026 across independent sources: El Imparcial, Semanario ZETA and KESQ/KYMA. Artist details cross-checked between en.wikipedia, MusicBrainz, buenamusica and the official Deezer catalog. This event was announced without a signed contract; dates, times and program may change.
