The transformation that demonstrates the power of citizen organization in Mexicali
In December the 10-year concession contract was signed for the property located on Calle Novena, between Residencial Mayakhan and Bosques del Sol. The plot had been used as an illegal dumping ground.
On January 14 the cleaning works began. Eight community workdays were needed to remove more than 8 tons of trash from the property.
Tree-planting workdays started with support from local companies. The long-term goal is to plant 1,500 trees and 3,000 endemic shrubs.
Main facilities were inaugurated: gatehouse, perimeter fence, restrooms, parking lot, two palapas, sports field, jogging path and bike trail.
The state environmental ministry (SMADS) formalized partnerships with the civil association to advance more ecological projects. The park hosts approximately 200 visitors per day.
The combined investment from the private sector, organized civil society and the state and municipal governments made it possible to build the parking lot, restrooms, palapas, perimeter fence, jogging path, bike trail, garden and green areas. It remains a project under expansion thanks to ongoing forestation workdays.
Everything you can find and enjoy at the park
