Mexicali is the city in Mexico that eats the most Chinese food, and China House is the most-reviewed Chinese restaurant in town: 4,666 Google reviews with a 4.5 rating. None of its competitors comes close in volume.
It sits on the corner of Calzada Justo Sierra and Carpinteros, in a two-storey building with two large billboards of its cooking and its motto out front: "Come for the tradition, stay for the flavor." Inside it is a large white-tablecloth dining room, with a red mural of mountains and terracotta warriors, and it is usually full.
The cooking is Cantonese, like most of Mexicali's. Google sums it up as "chop suey, chow mein and other Chinese dishes, wine and spirits." The ones that come up again and again in reviews are the fried rice, the beef with broccoli, the Cantonese chicken, the sweet and sour pork and the carnitas coloradas (char siu).
Their strong format is the set meals for sharing, with a two-person minimum: they arrive in courses and cover soup, a starter, two or three mains and rice. They also offer full and half orders, handy for tasting more without over-ordering. The meal closes with house tea and the house cookies.

It is always full and large groups come, so there is always a lot of noise, but there are plenty of tables and room. The food is delicious, my favorite place in Mxli. Service is not slow and the waiters do not hover.
Mexicali has no shortage of Chinese places; at China House every dish tastes great. We ordered fried rice, beef with broccoli, Cantonese chicken, sweet and sour pork and more, a pitcher of house tea and cookies for dessert. The place was spotless and the service excellent.
If you are from Tijuana, this Chinese food will taste odd and not very pleasant; I prefer the Chinese food in Tijuana. The dishes seem frozen and they serve the food lukewarm.
