How does the 50% prompt-payment discount work?

If you pay your fine within the first 5 to 10 business days after committing the violation, a 50% discount on the original amount is applied automatically. The deadline appears both on your violation ticket and in the online lookup. The discount is applied automatically when you pay within the period, both online and in person.

Where can I pay my traffic fines in person?

There are 4 options: (1) Municipal Police Headquarters on Calzada Héctor Terán y Anáhuac, especially if you need to recover a withheld license; (2) Centro Cívico Tax Collection Office on Calzada Independencia 998; (3) Municipal Traffic Department on Calzada Independencia 1350, Col. Nueva; and (4) the 14 municipal sub-offices distributed across the city. Payment is also accepted at authorized banks (BBVA, Santander, Banorte, etc.) and convenience stores (OXXO, 7-Eleven) with a payment reference.

Immediately upon paying the fine at the Municipal Police Headquarters. To recover it you must go in person with a valid official ID and the proof of payment. The Municipal Police Headquarters is on Calzada Héctor Terán y Calzada Anáhuac, open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

The consequences are: (1) monthly surcharges accumulate according to the municipal ordinance; (2) you will not be able to renew your vehicle registration or complete the annual vehicle renewal; (3) you will not be able to carry out a change of ownership, register plates or complete the inspection; (4) the fine is recorded in REPUVE tied to the vehicle; and (5) there may be withholding of your vehicle or license during traffic operations.

Do I need the physical violation ticket to pay?

No. With your plate number or vehicle identification number you can look up and pay all your outstanding fines online. The physical ticket is only informational. If you lost it, that is not a problem: the official system records all violations automatically and they appear in the lookup in about 24 hours (on weekdays) or 48 hours (on weekends).

Can I dispute a traffic fine in Mexicali?

Yes. You have the right to file an appeal before the Municipal Traffic Department within the 15 business days following the date of the violation. You must go with an official ID, the original ticket (or a copy), and any evidence to support your case (photos, videos, witnesses). The authority has 30 days to resolve it.

Do they accept credit and debit cards?

Yes. Both on the online portal and at the municipal offices they accept debit and credit cards from the main banks: BBVA, Santander, Banorte, Banamex, Scotiabank, HSBC. There are no additional fees for card payment. The offices also accept cash.

What are the hours of the Traffic offices?

Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm is the general schedule of the Municipal Police Headquarters and the Traffic Department. How long do fines take to appear in the system?

Violations take about 24 hours to appear on the online portal if they were issued Monday to Friday, and up to 48 hours if they occurred during the weekend. If you need to pay immediately and it does not appear yet, you can go directly to the Police Headquarters with your physical ticket.

Are fines with out-of-state plates also paid in Mexicali?
