What Plaza Sendero is, and why it matters on the south side
Plaza Sendero Mexicali is the youngest shopping center in the city: it opened in 2019 at the corner of Lázaro Cárdenas boulevard and the Anillo Periférico, and it has been south Mexicali’s retail reference ever since. It belongs to the Plaza Sendero chain, which runs same-format malls in 22 cities across Mexico, and it rates 4.5 stars on Google across more than 8,000 reviews.
The format is a single-level, enclosed, air-conditioned loop built around a central dome with natural light, where the mall stages its seasonal displays. Four anchors spread the traffic: the Ley supermarket on the west wing —with its own entrance from the parking lot and extended hours from 7 AM to 10 PM—, Woolworth facing the dome, Coppel by the main entrance and Cinépolis on the east wing. In between sit more than 100 brands of clothing, phones, banks and services, plus a food court where the burger chains share space with the inevitable Mexicali-style Chinese restaurant.
In the reviews, visitors repeat three things: the mall is clean, the air conditioning earns its keep half the year, and the parking lot —paid, at surface level and without shade— is the weak spot. For anyone on the south side it solves the supermarket, clothes shopping, weekday banking and the movies in a single trip; the hours in this guide were checked business by business against Google in August 2026.

On Lázaro Cárdenas, at the Periférico
The mall sits where Boulevard Lázaro Cárdenas meets the Anillo Periférico, the pair of roads that feeds all of south Mexicali
The south side commercial hub
It is not alone: gas stations, a 24-hour OXXO, a Caffenio and Wingstop sit on the outer ring, so the trip covers more than it looks
On-site parking (paid)
Surface parking lot wrapping the building, with direct access to the Ley entrance. It is paid, and visitors call it expensive in their reviews
⭐ Anchor Stores - The Main Attractions
Ley
The supermarket that holds the mall together and the reason many people come in. It has its own entrance from the parking lot, so it opens at 7 in the morning —three hours before everyone else— and closes at 10 at night. With 2,185 reviews and 4.4 stars it is among the best-rated supermarkets on the south side.
Woolworth
The department store most people do not expect to find here and which, in review count, runs almost even with the supermarket: 2,201 opinions and 4.5 stars. It is the classic a-bit-of-everything Woolworth —clothing, home, toys, pharmacy, bulk candy— and its entrance opens onto the central dome, the tallest point of the mall.
Coppel
Clothing, shoes, furniture, appliances, phones and electronics, with the in-house credit plan that is its whole reason for being. It is among the first shutters to come down: it closes at 8 PM, an hour before the mall, so do not leave it for the end of your loop.
Cinépolis
The mall cinema, in the east wing. It runs by showtime and does not publish a fixed opening hour: the chain reports it starts in the afternoon, so the day's listings are the only reliable way to know when to be there.
🍽️ Family Dining Options
Carl's Jr
With 2,405 reviews it is the most talked-about business in Plaza Sendero, ahead of the supermarket and Woolworth. Flame-grilled burgers, and one of only two places still serving once the mall has closed: it runs until 10 PM.
Rincón de Panchito
Mexicali is the capital of Chinese food in Mexico and this is its representative inside the mall: Cantonese cooking, 1,281 reviews and 4.3 stars. Diners report that on birthdays the staff sings las mañanitas and brings out a slice of cake. It closes at 9, along with the mall.
Dairy Queen
The other spot open until 10 PM. Blizzards, sundaes, ice cream cakes and fast food: the mandatory stop for families walking out of the cinema or the supermarket with Mexicali heat on their backs.
Burger King
The home of the Whopper, inside the food court. Watch the hours: it closes at 8 PM, before the mall and two hours before Carl's Jr, so it does not work for the after-movie run.
Pizza Deprizza
Regional pizza chain in the food court, with 171 reviews and 4.2 stars. Opens at 10 in the morning and closes at 10 at night, one of the longest schedules in the restaurant area.
Bowl Restaurant
The best-rated spot in the food court: 4.6 stars. Asian-style bowls built to order, with takeout available. It follows mall hours, 11 to 9.
🍽️ Other Food Court Options
Family food area with ample tables and air-conditioned environment
📋 Complete Commercial Directory
Fashion and footwear
The largest category in the mall. Almost all of them close at 8 PM
Health, beauty and gyms
Ultra Gym opens at 5 AM and Iron Muscle runs 24 hours on weekdays: both with independent access
Phones and electronics
AT&T is the best-rated business in the whole mall: 4.9 stars with 800 reviews
Banks and money
Banks close at 4 PM and do not open on weekends; the banking agents and the pawn shop do
👨👩👧👦 Family Services and Amenities
🌟 Specially Designed for Families
Plaza Sendero Mexicali has been designed from the beginning as a 100% family space, where parents, mothers, children and grandparents can enjoy a comfortable and safe shopping experience.
All indoors, all air-conditioned
In a city that goes past 113 °F in summer this is not a detail: the mall is a closed, climate-controlled loop, with the central dome as your landmark
Surface parking (paid)
Surface parking lot wrapping the building, no ramps and no levels. Heads up: it is paid —chain-wide policy at Sendero malls— and the cost is the most repeated complaint in reviews
Errands and payments
You can knock out the bank, the utility bills and a money transfer in the same trip — but only on weekdays and before 4 PM
Gyms on their own schedule
Two gyms that do not depend on mall hours: Ultra Gym opens at 5 AM and Iron Muscle runs 24 hours Monday through Friday
🎪 Events and Community Life
📅 A Living and Dynamic Shopping Center
Plaza Sendero Mexicali maintains an active programming of free family events that complement the shopping experience with quality entertainment for the whole family.
Seasons under the dome
The central dome is where the mall stages its seasonal setups: the giant December tree is the most photographed by its own visitors
Brand activations
Sales booths, expos and activations that pop up in the wide corridors and in front of the anchors, mostly on weekends
Where it gets announced
The mall does not publish a calendar on its website: whatever is happening goes up on their Facebook page, and that is where to check before going for a specific event

🧭 Before you go
Five things that change how the visit goes, all of them drawn from each business's real hours.
The shutters do not all come down together
Coppel closes at 8, the mall and Woolworth at 9, and Ley, Carl's Jr and Dairy Queen hold on until 10. Show up at 8:30 and you can still do groceries and dinner, but not clothes or credit.
The bank runs out first
BBVA and Banamex close at 4 PM and do not open on weekends. If you are coming for banking, that is your real schedule, not the mall's. Banorte agents and MoneyGram do keep retail hours.
The cinema runs by listings, not by clock
Cinépolis does not publish a fixed opening hour: it runs by showtime and starts in the afternoon. Check the day's listings before leaving home, especially if you plan to arrive early.
In summer, the parking lot is the problem
The inside is enclosed and air-conditioned, but the parking lot is at surface level, paid and with no shade —the combination visitors complain about the most in reviews—: in June and July go early or after 7 PM, and park on the Ley side, which is closest to the spaces.
There is life outside mall hours
Ultra Gym opens at 5 in the morning and Iron Muscle runs 24 hours Monday through Friday; on the outer ring there is a 24-hour OXXO, a Caffenio from 6 AM and the Wingstop. All with independent access, so they work even when the mall is closed.
⭐ What visitors say
Real reviews from the mall's Google listing (4.5★ across 8,061 opinions), including the most repeated complaint.
“This shopping center has a lot of great stores and fast food restaurants. It's a great place to stay cool during the summer months, and a great place to go shopping.”— Manuel Villalpando, on Google (June 2026)
“Awesome place. Been going here for more than a year and the place keeps being great. The Chinese food is the bomb here and the lady fills the plate as if I was gonna eat all that.”— Al Cervantes, on Google (May 2026)
“Excellent variety of stores and a beautiful mall, it just needs shade in the parking lot, because they do charge a lot for not having any.”— Boyer PLC PRado, on Google (July 2026, translated from Spanish)
