The Filarmónica de Mexicali and the Ópera y Coro Sinfónico de Mexicali perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 7:00 PM, at the Mexicali Cathedral downtown. It is sacred music written for a Mass for the dead, played here in its natural setting, three days before the Day of the Dead.
The concert comes in the year the Diocese of Mexicali turns 60 — it was established on March 25, 1966 — and the official poster carries its anniversary logo next to the Filarmónica's. The orchestra is local: the same one that backed Yandel on his symphonic tour this year and staged the symphonic tribute to Juan Gabriel at the Palenque del FEX.
The conductor, soloists and full program have not been announced yet. As soon as the Filarmónica publishes them, we will add them here.
It is one of the most famous works in classical music, and part of that fame comes from its story: Mozart was writing it on commission when he died. He finished the opening section and left advanced sketches of several more; it breaks off in the first bars of the "Lacrimosa". Other musicians completed it afterwards, above all Süssmayr, whose version is the one usually performed. The production has not said which edition it will use in Mexicali.

It is a Thursday evening: parking nearby fills up, so arrive with time to spare. It is a place of worship, so modest clothing is a good idea.
