About the Nido de los Águilas
The Nido de los Águilas ("Eagles’ Nest") is Mexicali’s baseball stadium and home of the Águilas in the Mexican Pacific League (LMP), the winter league whose champion goes to the Caribbean Series. It sits inside the Ciudad Deportiva sports complex on Calzada Cuauhtémoc, about ten minutes from downtown. Since the 2025 renovation you can spot it from afar by its white "feather" facade, lit up at night; inside, 18,500 seats surround a field with 330-foot lines and 400 feet to center.
Fifty years of baseball
It was built in 1972-73 as the Ciudad Deportiva ballpark for about 9,000 people and hosted its first LMP game on October 14, 1976, when the Águilas lost 2-3 to Guaymas "before an enormous crowd". The name changed with each sponsor (Casas GEO, B'Air, Farmacias Santa Mónica) until 2021, when it went back to the one fans always used. In 2001 the wooden bleachers were replaced with concrete and seats, boxes were added and a third "Preferente Central" level was built. The Águilas have four league titles (1985-86, 1988-89, 1998-99 and 2016-17) and the 1986 Caribbean Series in Maracaibo; 2026-27 is the club’s 50th LMP season.
The 2025 renovation and the Caribbean Series
Mexicali had already hosted the Caribbean Series in 2009 (Tigres de Aragua won). For the 2025 edition the state government invested over 125 million pesos: 15,242 new seats plus 468 in extra bleachers, the illuminated facade, three entrance gates and a pedestrian tunnel, a larger esplanade, restrooms, ramps and two rebuilt elevators, and 210 new field lights. Work finished on January 29, 2025, and a week later the stadium drew more than 201,000 fans over 14 games; on Sunday, February 2, 30,355 people attended two games. Leones del Escogido beat Charros de Jalisco 1-0 in the final. The next Caribbean Series in Mexico will be in Hermosillo in February 2027.
How to go to a game
Tickets are sold on Boletomovil and at the stadium box office; they start at 50 pesos in the regular season and go up by section. You get in with the QR code on your phone. Weekday games are usually at 7:30 pm, Saturdays at 6:00 pm and Sundays at 4:00 pm, with gates two hours before, but each series can change: check lmp.mx. Children need a ticket from age 3. Inside the Ciudad Deportiva there is public INDE parking for 75 pesos on game days; avoid the makeshift lots on the avenue, which charged up to 800 pesos in 2025 and were fined. Arrive early: the 2026 home opener filled all 18,500 seats.
What you can’t bring in
The club’s list is long and they check at the gate: outside food and drink, coolers, large bags, strollers and baby carriers, umbrellas, helmets, sticks and balls, laptops and tablets, pets, fireworks and drones. A clear bag is recommended. Inside there are food stands (the loaded "crazy fries" are the classic), beer and micheladas; in October and November it cools down at night, so a light jacket helps.
Off-season concerts
When there is no baseball, the Nido becomes a concert venue: Grupo Firme in April 2025, Los Tigres del Norte in April 2026 and Junior H on February 6, 2027. Do not confuse it with the Ciudad Deportiva esplanade, where the stages for Luis Miguel or Carín León are set up: that is a separate space outside the stadium.
