What is the Valley of the Giants?
Just 20 minutes south of San Felipe and approximately 2 hours from Mexicali, lies one of Baja California's most impressive natural treasures: the Valley of the Giants, home to over 1,200 centuries-old cardón cacti.
This protected natural sanctuary houses the world's most spectacular concentration ofPachycereus pringlei, known as cardón or "Elephant Cactus." These plant colossi can reach 65 feet tall (equivalent to a 6-story building), weigh up to 25 tons, and live more than 300 years.
Located between the Sea of Cortez and the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, the valley is part of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem, one of the most biodiverse deserts on the planet. How to Get There from Mexicali
🚗 Driving Route (Recommended)
- 1From Mexicali, take Federal Highway 5 toward San Felipe
- 2Drive approximately 2 hours (120 miles) to San Felipe
- 3Continue south on Highway 5 toward Puertecitos
- 4At Km 14, look for the Rancho Punta Estrella sign
- 5Turn right and follow the dirt road (~15-20 min)

🚙 Do I Need 4WD?
