Cenaduría Selecta is one of the Mexican restaurants with the longest history in Mexicali: it opened in 1945 and today it is run by the third generation of the Vieyra Robles family. It has 4,570 Google reviews with a 4.5 rating and fills a hacienda-style building, terracotta with a tower, at the corner of Calle G and Avenida Arista in Colonia Nueva.
According to the family, the story began in 1935 with Don José Vieyra and Doña María Robles and a taco stand in La Chinesca, which years later became the cenaduría. Their motto is "Bienvenidos a su casa" ("Welcome to your home"), and the reviews echo it: family atmosphere, attentive staff and home-style cooking.
The menu is traditional Mexican cooking: machaca with eggs and chilaquiles for breakfast, and mole poblano, enchiladas suizas, chiles rellenos, beef soup (caldo de res) and beef tacos for lunch and dinner. A place that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Their motto "Bienvenidos a su casa" really describes the experience. We tried the beef soup, chiles rellenos and sopes, all with a delicious home-style flavor. The desserts and coffee were the perfect finish. It comes to about $300 MXN per person.
Excellent service, very good food and a family atmosphere that will make you come back. The beef fajitas are delicious and the plate is big so you won't leave hungry. The soup of the day was beef soup, also delicious. You can have corn or flour tortillas with your meal.
A very quiet place with attentive, friendly staff from the moment you walk in; no waiting time. The food is very well seasoned. The beef soup was a little salty for me and the meat could have been a bit more tender. The restrooms were very clean.
