Mr. Pampas is the best-known Brazilian-style meat buffet in Mexicali: its Plaza El Caballito location on Blvd. López Mateos has 4.5 stars from 5,342 Google reviews, and the city has a second location on Calzada Justo Sierra. It works as a churrascaria or rodizio: you pay a fixed price and waiters come to your table with skewers (espadas) of charcoal-grilled cuts that they carve for you on the spot, as many times as you want.
Each table has a "Gracias: Sí / No" card: green side up and the meat keeps coming, red side up and they let you rest. Besides the parade of meats there is a salad bar with hot and cold dishes, sushi, pasta, soups, stews and desserts. It is part of a Mexican chain with more than 20 years and locations across the country, including Tijuana and Ensenada.
According to Mr. Pampas's official menu for Mexicali (checked on September 28, 2026), the rodizio costs $450 MXN per adult, $295 per child and $170 for babies (the restaurant decides age or height at the door). If you only want the salad bar, without the meats, it is $330. Drinks are extra and have no free refills; the suggested tip is 10%.
Their menu lists more than 20 cuts, including picanha, arrachera (skirt steak), tomahawk, filet mignon, sirloin, beef ribs, BBQ ribs, short ribs (asado de tira), chuck (aguja norteña), leg of lamb, Brazilian sausage, chistorra, bacon-wrapped bites, beef tripe, al pastor and lime chicken breast, plus shrimp and octopus. A tip that keeps coming up in reviews: if you want a specific cut, ask your waiter; the octopus and shrimp usually don't come around unless you ask.
The Caballito location is the largest and, according to diners, has the better-stocked salad bar. Both have a "Pampas Kids" play area with a nanny, and Caballito has free parking, wheelchair access and card or contactless payment. There is beer, wine, cocktails and caipirinhas. They take reservations on weekdays; on weekends, holidays and all of December they don't, so arrive early.

Excellent experience from start to finish. Service was attentive, organized, and respectful of our time. Meats came out hot, flavorful, and properly cooked, and the variety was more than enough. The atmosphere was comfortable and family-friendly.
The service is very good, they are constantly bringing cuts; you can also ask for any cut you want and they bring it right away. The salad bar has plenty of sides and includes food for kids, nuggets and pizza. What I like most is the kids' area, where a nanny plays with them and looks after them.
In Mexicali they have 2 locations (Caballito and Justo Sierra). Personally, I prefer Caballito for its size and its salad bar. This time I went to Justo Sierra and, although the salad bar is much smaller, the cuts were very well seasoned. Service was a bit lacking because there were few waiters.
No refills on regular drinks, ordered a pitcher. Had a small slice of cake dessert, a bit dry. Everything else was great: atmosphere, service, parking. Four guests at $2,000+ pesos. It is on my "come back again" list.
What is on the salad bar is pretty bad: cold pastas and vegetables that are not fresh at all. The meat, when they do bring it, is very good, but I think they try to fill you up with chicken, bread and chistorra; the cuts don't come even when you ask, or take a long time.
